A gameshow in which 10 "prisoners" race to escape a specially-built jail to claim a £100,000 cash prize spearheads the new Channel 5 autumn schedule.

Jailbreak, a three-week reality/game show series starting on September 5, will be hosted six days a week by Ulrika Jonsson and shown round-the-clock on the internet.

The first person to escape the Big Brother-style set-up will scoop a £100,000 jackpot from an overall prize fund of £250,000.

Channel 5's director of programmes, Dawn Airey, said: "Jailbreak combines two of Britain's television obsessions: it's where reality TV meets the game show.

"There's never been anything like it on British television before and we're sure it will be a unique and compulsive viewing experience."

Jailbreak is just one of 39 new programmes being launched in the station's latest £51 million schedule - its most ambitious yet.
