Seventh Castaway quits show A seventh participant in the BBC's Castaway series has quit the programme after feeling homesick for her family. Mother-of-three Hilary Freeman, 52, decided the lure of her Scarborough home was too strong to resist after eight months on the Hebridean island of Taransay. A BBC spokesman said Mrs Freeman's decision had been prompted by the islanders' brief reunion with their families last month. The multi-million pound docu-soap now has 29 contestants following the departure of Mrs Freeman, who left the island on Thursday evening. A spokesman for the programme's production team said: "We can confirm Hilary has left the island. "This is not a snap decision; she had been thinking about it for some time. "It was seeing her family during visitors' week that was the final straw and made her realise she wanted to be with them." She was later reunited with her husband John and children Melanie, 21, Claire, 18, and John, 14. The show's executive producer, Jeremy Mills, said: "Hilary was a fantastic person who had a lot to give to the community and her decision was taken after a lot of careful consideration. "She went away without her family to try her hand at survival, and ultimately it's that whole process and the decision she made that will make such interesting viewing."
