Castaway family leave island A family of four have become the latest people to leave the BBC's Castaway 2000 programme. Gordon and Cassie Carey, both 51, and their children Yoneh, five, and Aaron, three, have opted to return home from the remote island of Taransay where the fly-on-the-wall documentary is being filmed. The departure of the Careys, from Birmingham, is the third major setback to the project after Ray Bowyer and Ron Copsey quit. The family, one of only five who have taken their children to the island, are Seventh Day Adventists and do not drink or smoke and it is thought that this led to tension on the island. A BBC spokeswoman said: "We can confirm that the Carey family will be leaving the Castaway 2000 project with our support and agreement. "Gordon, Cassie, Yoneh and Aaron have found many aspects of Castaway 2000, such as their involvement with the animals, the crops, the building programme and the school activities, very rewarding. "However they found it difficult to reconcile some elements of their way of life with other members of the community. "The Careys' story will feature in the next programme of Castaway 2000 due to be shown in September." Series producer Chris Kelly said: "We are extremely sad to see the Carey family leave after they have made such a valuable contribution to the Castaway 2000 project."
