TARANSAY SIX SAVED!! Castaway pups to meet new owners
Two of the puppies born on the television Castaway island of Taransay are due to meet their new families for the first time. Four puppies born on the remote island had to leave after the castaways, stars of the BBC documentary, decided they could not cope with the new litter and voted against keeping them. Merlin, one of the quartet is due to meet his new owner, while a Yorkshire farming family are facing the task of deciding which of his brothers Duke or Bruiser to take home. Bruiser, Duke, Merlin and Molly were offered new homes by more than 250 animal lovers, who flooded the Scottish Society for the Protection of Animals (SSPCA) with offers when they were taken off the island earlier this year. The collies were collected from the windswept Hebridean island by an inspector from the charity and housed in an animal rescue centre in Dumbarton, Dunbartonshire. Molly has already been taken to her new owner, whose previous pet was the last dog to be born on the remote outpost. Val Ruffles, of Field Dalling, Norfolk, worked on Taransay and took Bett, her last dog, away with her. Merlin is due to start a new life in the north-east of Scotland with the Search and Rescue Dog Association and today he was meeting the association's John Easton, who will train him. The Fountain family from Boltby, North Yorkshire, were choosing between Bruiser and Duke to work on their mixed farm.
