COME on BBC, play
fair! Viewers were led to believe the whole point of Castaway 2000 was
that the volunteers were stuck on that remote island for 12 months with
no outside contact. Strangling a chicken for supper and catching a cow
to squeeze a pinta. Intrigued by such
a bold, exciting concept, we turned on in our millions. But it seems that
the toughest time the brave volunteers have had is clambering aboard the
getaway helicopter the minute filming stops for the short hop to holiday
homes with all mod cons and chicken that only comes in a basket.
Castaway 2000? They should have called it Holiday 2000. The BBC, with a boat-load of our dosh, had the chance to give us a genuine wind-swept adventure series. Now their cover has been blown we'll take it all with a pinch of Taransay salt. If they play it straight with the audience, they could yet end up with one of the most compelling TRUE stories ever seen on TV. So why do they bother with porkies? |
