ANIMAL rights activists last night launched a campaign to save Big Brother hen Marjorie and her six pals from the pot. They were furious when they read in yesterday's Daily Star how the housemates were plotting murder most fowl. Darren and Scouse builder Craig have been licking their lips at the thought of fresh chicken for tea. Irishman Thomas, who lives on a farm, even threatened to kill one just for FUN. But last night Channel 4 bosses were threatened with legal action unless the chickens are spared. People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) said it was planning to take out an injunction against the TV channel. They say the chickens are "non-consenting participants" in the show and must be moved to a place of safety. Spokesman Andrew Butler fumed: "This programme takes us back to the perverted times of the Roman circus, when animals were cruelly killed for sheer entertainment. "The birds didn't volunteer for this fiasco and they don't deserve to die." In a warning letter from its London-based lawyers it called some comments made by the Big Brother contestants "crass and offensive". Thomas and Craig were singled out for their bloodthirsty behaviour. The organisation was threatening to picket the Big Brother set with placards reading: "Vote out chicken abusers." Last night security around the Big Brother house was being stepped up . Big Brother bosses had already ordered the housemates NOT to kill any hens for at least 28 days because worming treatment could make anyone who ate them ill. The chickens were also too scrawny, they said. But Darren snapped: "I disagree... there is plenty of meat on Marjorie." And Craig added: "If there is no chicken in our fridge tomorrow, there will be no chickens outside. "We could neck and eat a chicken each week."
