HE'S STILL THERE!!
By EMILY SMITH NASTY Nick Bateman last night escaped being nominated for the boot from Big Brother for the FOURTH week running. Nick, 33, is now the only contestant NEVER to be picked for the chop by his housemates. Instead they named Scouser Craig Phillips and skinhead Nichola in a secret ballot. Viewers will make the final choice - and the loser will be kicked out live on Friday night. A Channel 4 insider said: "I cannot believe Nick still has not been nominated. "People are going to start to think the nominations are fixed - but that is just not true." And a source revealed producers plan to focus less on fibbing Nick in case he is lynched by viewers when he finally leaves the show. Craig, 28, and Bolton lass Nichola, 29, got four votes each from their housemates. They both put on a brave face after hearing they were up for the chop. Nichola, who was heartbroken when close pal Caroline O'Shea, 37, left on Friday, said: "I knew it was going to be me. "I have been screaming abuse at people and you can't expect to stay if you are doing it. "But I am quite pleased - five weeks is enough. "I have things to do and I can't do them here." And Craig hugged housemate Melanie Hill, 26, and said: "I thought it was coming. It does not bother me at all." The pair were comforted by all the housemates EXCEPT stockbroker Nick. He was the only contestant to nominate them both - and sat silently in the corner of the room. Meanwhile, Big Brother bosses plan to ease off the way they portray Nick's scheming because of fears the public backlash against him could get worse. An insider said: "Channel 4 have sought legal advice and they have been told Nick might have a case if he comes out of the house and is abused as a result of the coverage. "They have decided to tone down their coverage because of the hate campaign about him. "He has been offered more counselling and is being encouraged to confess to more things." And Nick, who has admitted he lied about being widowed, said of the day he leaves: "Will I have to walk outside with a blanket on my head? "It's a terrifying thought, especially if you are worried you may have come across the wrong way. "It could be one of those things that haunt you for the rest of your life." A MINDER had to dash on to the set to put out a chip-pan fire at the house last night after the contestants stood around gawping at the flames. A spokeswoman said: "They were all useless." Nasty Nick was
By GRANT ROLLINGS HERE'S Big Brother contestant Nick Bateman in an earlier attempt at TV fame - as a smoothie dinner date on Richard and Judy's morning chat show. Nasty Nick can be seen in our exclusive picture (above) trying to woo redhead Lizzie Fetzer at a posh restaurant three years ago. Nick, 32 - who has enraged Big Brother viewers by lying and conniving behind his fellow contestants backs - was shown trying to impress Lizzie on the dance floor. He was taking part in a This Morning series called Finding A Partner. Dressed in a smart suit and sporting a longer haircut, stockbroker Nick joined other romance seekers at The Elephant On The River, in Pimlico, South West London. But, according Nick's friend Ron Wheatley, his telly date was a flop. Ron, 65, who has known Nick for ten years, said: "It was a dating programme for executives, but the girl didn't like him." Another pal, who did not wish to be named, commented: "He comes across as a complete prat on it but he was so thrilled with himself that he used to make people watch it. "He still has the video at home."
