NASTY NICK IS TO QUIT BIG BROTHER
I'm so depressed, he tells TV shrink
THE most hated man on TV is to quit Big Brother, suffering from depression.

City whizzkid Nick Bateman - loathed by hordes of the fly-on-the-wall show's 3.7million viewers - admitted feeling down when quizzed by a psychologist.

He is expected to walk out shortly to avoid being evicted by his six housemates. Show insiders say the self-confessed liar, regarded as a back-stabber, has been hit hard by the level of abuse aimed at him.

Nick - real name Jack - first knew that many Channel 4 viewers loathed him when a crowd gathered outside the Big Brother house and chanted abuse.

Fans watching Caroline O'Shea booted out of the house on Friday night joined in a chorus of "Out, Nick, out." Caroline, 37, was nominated for eviction by Nick and two other housemates.

An insider revealed: "He's really worried about running the gauntlet of angry viewers if he is evicted. We'd probably have to airlift him out. So he plans to quit first."

Andrew Davidson and Sada Walkington have already been thrown out of the Big Brother house, which is rigged with more than 25 cameras.

One of 32-year-old Nick's City friends, who went to East London to watch Friday's eviction, said: "There were hundreds of people booing Nick.

"I could hear them before I reached the house so there's no way Nick could have missed it. I've known him for a couple of years and he always wants everyone to like him.

"I don't know how much longer he'll last in that house if he thinks he's the most hated man on TV. Knowing Nick he'll cut his losses and leave. There's no way he'll walk out if there's thousands of people booing outside." Viewers have seen Nick apparently sink into a deep depression.

He tried to keep his back-stabbing to a minimum, confessing to housemates Mel and Thomas that he had lied about his wife being killed in a car crash.

Caroline's mother Mary said of Nick: "He's a dirty rat. We've been screaming at the TV for the last three weeks. I can't believe what a back- stabber he is."

The psychologist revealed Nick's fears to TV chiefs this week. A TV spokesman said: "If any of the housemates are seriously depressed then we will take action. I suppose that could lead to them leaving the house if we thought their health was suffering."

Nick's depression isn't likely to end when he leaves the house. Producers of a hit Channel Four show are planning to launch Big Brother merchandise next month.

Fans will be able to buy mobile phone covers, mugs and T-shirts with pictures of the different housemates on them. But an insider revealed there will be fewer featuring Nick than the other residents.
