BIG BROTHER : THE BIG SNUBBER
ANGRY Gavin Cox refused a last ditch plea from Big Brother host Davina McCall to appear on last night's show. He also turned down her request to give viewers a message to explain his absence as girlfriend Helen Adams faced eviction. Outraged by Helen's constant flirting with housemate Paul Clarke, Gavin said: "I don't need to say anything on national TV. TV isn't the place to discuss anything Helen and I have to talk about. The Mirror is my outlet. "Davina was very kind and understanding, and said 'You have to do what you feel is right'. So I agreed to give Helen a message wishing her all the best." The message said: "You're still a great girl with a lot to offer somebody - but its obviously not me. "At the moment I don't see any future for us. I don't want to talk about it on TV. I wish you all the best for the show and the future. "If you want to contact me when you come out, you can. But I won't be contacting you." The last straw for Big G was 23-year-old Helen's candlelit dinner with Paul, 25, when she begged him to sleep in the girls' bedroom. Mining geologist Gavin said: "It was a tough decision not to go to the studio because I'd promised Helen I'd be there. But I didn't feel I had to after the way she behaved. I've seen, heard and suffered enough. "I've run out of excuses for how she's acted. A man's got to know when to walk - that time is now." Gavin, of Cardiff, revealed that Big Brother backroom staff had tried to "gently twist my arm". But he added: "They knew it was a fruitless task. They've met me before and know I'm strong willed." Gavin spoke out as Helen nervously waited to see if she or gay Josh Rafter, 32, was the next to be evicted from the Channel 4 house. The dizzy blonde hairdresser's on-off screen romance with Paul has left viewers waiting for the moment when they finally sleep together. Yesterday, Paul daubed the words "I Love Sex" on Helen's shoulders during an art workshop. Helen shrieked in mock horror: "I'm not happy, Mr Clarke!" Paul then lifted his T-shirt and pressed his chest against Helen to transfer the painted message on to his body. For viewers it is spellbinding. For Gavin it is a living nightmare which has cost him sleepless nights and half a stone in weight. Locked away at home to escape cruel taunts about the girl he once planned to marry, he said: "Helen was THE girl for me. But I don't feel the love for her that I did. "She's not the Helen I know and not the Helen who went into the house seven weeks ago. "I once thought she could move in with me or we'd look for a place together. But marriage is out now." Gavin has only voted once in the show - in a bid to evict Paul when he was nominated with Bubble. He said bitterly: "Helen has betrayed herself. There seems to be some bond between her and Paul. "She seems to need constant reassurance that she's attractive to the opposite sex, which Paul is only too keen to offer. "Helen's immaturity and naivety also seem to have increased over the weeks. She's obviously flattered by the attention Paul lavishes on her and sucks it up like a sponge. He has exploited her feelings. But I can't blame just him for wrecking my relationship. It takes two to tango." Helen has tried to justify her conduct by questioning whether Gavin has seen other women. Gavin said: "After flirting with Paul at the meal, she referred to me fraternising with women at work. "At the end of the day, when she was out teaching dancing four or five nights a week, I wasn't going to stay at home and be a hermit. "I appreciate the value of female friends but I always thought she was the girl for me. Now the trust has gone. I'm so let down."
